Protecting Your Largest Investment
How It All Started
Buying a house can be exciting, but also kind of scary. Back in 1971, we decided to make that process a little less scary by founding the home warranty industry. Before American Home Shield, there was nothing to protect homeowners from the expensive and unexpected repair and replacement costs that are inevitable with home ownership. Things like having the stove or washer stop working at the worst possible time or having the A/C quit in the heat of summer. We decided to change all of that and founded the home warranty industry. Our Commitment Continues Today we're the undisputed leader in home warranties, helping to provide peace of mind to millions of homeowners, regardless of the age or condition of their home. We also provide the convenience of having a single number to call when something goes wrong. Whether you are in the middle of purchasing a home or if you've lived in your current home for years now, we've created a home warranty plan designed to put the control of responsible homeownership back in your hands. With over 16,000 contractors across the nation and the most comprehensive coverage on the market, we've got you covered.

I have been paying for a home warranty service for several years with American Home Shield. My dishwasher just stopped working on 12/26 (11 days ago) and I finally had a chance to use my warranty. Now I’m stuck in limbo waiting for a repair I’ve paid for but not given any actual date for the repair… maybe a week, maybe more. Granted it was over the holidays, but this is completely out of the realm of reasonable service time. I can order the OEM part myself on Amazon and have it here tomorrow. Watch a short YouTube video and I can install it myself… which I may have to do since they are telling me it may be another WEEK before they can get the part and have the repair guy come back out.
It has been nearly impossible to talk to anyone through this process. They have never called me, I have had to call them every step of the way… to get a date for service, to get an update on the part order… There is absolutely no excuse for this kind of service. What a complete waste of money. I will not be using this company anymore and strongly suggest anyone looking for a home warranty look elsewhere.
***UPDATE***
I finally got a call back letting me know the part would be in 1/9... well guess what, I ordered the same OEM part on amazon, next day delivery and installed it myself. This whole episode cost me hours of phone calls, almost 2 weeks without a dishwasher, the cost of the part which I paid for myself and the time it took me to install myself. While they did refund the $100 service fee, when I asked for a refund for one month of service for the hassle and for the cost of the part, they told me they do not do refunds. That settled it. I have canceled my service.
American Home Shield, you really dropped the ball on this one and lost a longtime client. You can be sure that I will be telling every realtor and homeowner I know never to use this company. Lesson learned... read the reviews ahead of time!
Each time I call, I am told it will be fixed, only to get another month down the road with no resolution. Each time I call, I cannot get in contact the person who I previously spoke to, so I have to go through the entire story again, only to be told it will be fixed. Their default excuse is that Accounting has not made the necessary adjustment.
Today, after speaking with two different agents (Allaine, Leticia) and being put on hold several times, my call rolled over to the customer satisfaction survey line. One would think they would attempt to call me back or email me - we know they have that information.
Calling back again, I got an agent (Derine) who basically said all the other agents did not go through the necessary steps to resolve my issue, and that he could get it fixed. He also said that he would immediately send me an email with some policy information with which I can call the sales department to set up a repriced policy. Seven hours later, I have still not received anything.
I will be calling tomorrow to cancel my contract because I should not have to spend an hour a month to try fixing something that any diligent company should be able to handle.
I’m disappointed that someone in American Shield sent me a unit from another brand that you told me you ordered for me. I have been a customer of American Home Shield over fourteen years and have always received what you said until this time.
I requested a call back from a manager and was told by Emmanuel rep # 6016469 that I could not get a call back that HE had explained everything to me. Wait a minute, when i ask for a call back I expect a call;not to be told by some disrespectful employee with no clout that they wont allow a call back.
Some previous repairs have been a good and timely experience, but it usually takes a full hour on the phone with the reps to convey what is needed. The rep today is trying to tell me disclosures and non covered repairs were in my agreement, so far i do not see what he referenced, and I looked. I should not be denied a return phone call ever, these reps need to learn that the customer is what provides them a paycheck.
