Tom Greenville RI
The two workers they sent to our house Alexandre and Waxel went above and beyond our expectations. They installed gutters, finished work on our back deck, window casing and door casing.
We highly recommend Tiler, Alexandre and Waxel and Couto Construction. We couldn't be any happier. We will definitely use them in any and all future projects.
The on-site crew was skilled and courteous. It was clear they took pride in their work, and it absolutely shows in the final result. The production office was fantastic—they delivered on their promises, communicated well, and helped ease any concerns we had along the way.
A special thank-you to Megan and Michael, who provided us with some stunning finished photos that I can’t wait to show my kids—such a thoughtful and personal touch.
Thank you, Couto! We’ll absolutely use ya'll again and recommend you to others
I’ve had a genuinely frustrating and costly experience with Couto Construction that raises serious concerns. This is a warning to anyone considering hiring them.
I have extensive documentation—photos, messages, and receipts—of what became a disastrous project. Here’s a summary of what happened:
🚪 Sliding Door Installation – $8,000 Job Gone Wrong
I paid nearly $8,000 for a new sliding door with full installation. The door was installed, but they left exposed drywall and nails, then told me I’d need to hire another contractor to finish the plastering—even though it was part of the agreement.
When I signed the contract, Nick assured me that the job would be fully handled, and that the only thing I should expect was that the siding might not perfectly match. I appreciated that honesty—until they completely changed the plan without telling me.
They didn’t even try to match the trim. Instead, they installed a vinyl border around the sliding door. That might sound minor, but for the price and long-term value, it’s a big detail to change without consent.
I trusted them to do the job right. They weren’t upfront. They weren’t professional.
⸻
🚪 Storm Door – Wrong Specs, Wrong Install
Couto also ordered the wrong front storm door. When a rep called to confirm the specs, they listed the wrong handle side and color. I corrected them and confirmed it should swing to the right with the handle on the left—exactly as it was.
They still installed it backward. I tried to make it work, but it just didn’t function properly, so I asked for a fix. To their credit, they did reorder and install a replacement quickly—but even then, I ended up with a 50/50 split glass door, not the full glass door I had initially discussed with Nick. I was under the impression I paid for the full glass, which is more expensive.
I accepted the change, but that’s two major miscommunications on one job.

⚡ Electrical Disaster – Unsafe, Unprofessional, Expensive
This was by far the worst part.
During the project, their crew spliced into my exterior light wiring incorrectly, which eventually blew my main meter and left my home without power—twice.
At first, their electrician told me it was safe for the night, and left an exposed extension cord running from a hallway light fixture to the panel. Around midnight, my main breaker blew. My own electrician had to come out immediately to do temporary repairs.
Couto came back the next day to “fix” things, but by 8 PM that evening, the breaker blew again. My electrician assessed the damage and found that the meter had melted and started to burn out. He replaced the breaker, and my HOA had to cover the cost of a new meter—thankfully confirming it was not my fault.
And still, Couto Construction accepted no responsibility. In fact, I watched them point fingers at each other while I was left paying $250/hour for my own licensed electrician to clean up their mess.
⸻
🧾 They Ignored Me
I reached out three separate times, professionally, asking to resolve things. I was ignored every time.
⸻
👎 Final Thoughts
As a single homeowner, I strongly believe they assumed I wouldn’t challenge them or ask questions. They were happy to talk big and promise results—until they had my money. After that, I was left dealing with subcontractors who couldn’t communicate, unfinished work, wrong products, and serious electrical risks to my family.
I was told this was a top-rated company in my area, but this experience has been a huge letdown. I’m not saying this happens to every customer—but it happened to me, and it’s important to share.
If you’re considering Couto Construction, please do your research. Ask specific questions. Get everything in writing. And if something feels off—walk away.
Thanks for reading. I hope this helps someone avoid what I went through.
