Detailed:
The telemarketing team sounds like a timeshare company pushing for 90 minutes of your time and that all home-owners be present.
The Tailored Remodeling member was punctual which was impressive because of the winter weather. The sales team obviously has a scripted process on how they must conduct themselves when onsite. I feel my team member was thorough.
They do a moisture test, a microscope presentation which and then presentation about the company.
I felt most of this was unnecessary for me for the following reasons:
1. All the moisture issues could be explained and the science didn’t necessarily backup their findings.
a. the neighborhood has moisture issues from how the houses are built on a slope
b. the construction could be lacking a well designed moisture barrier since it was built over 30 years age.
c. the walls were exterior walls protected by older vinyl siding
d. The material they were testing is unknown and could naturally retain some moisture well within acceptable standards of over 5%
e. no control number was taken by testing other walls outside a bathroom . A bathroom is a naturally moisturized space.
f. drywall and plaster can easily survive in moisture levels above 6%.
2. Using a microscope projector just showed that we needed to clean better. Also that the bathroom was being used as storage until the kitchen remodel was done. I didn’t needed to be reminded of what I already knew.
I doubt the grout in the last 1/8 of inch of the corner of my shower pan would be contributing to health problems of my feet if I had any health problems.
3. It is nice to know who I am doing business with but less than 15% of the mandatory presentation is actually about the product that I will be living with. Why your product is better is what I cared about not a lesson in the Better Business Bureau. Even your comparison with some of the other products was misleading and not 100% genuine.
Some products are definitely better than others. It’s not a subjective statement. BUT when you aren’t comparing apples to apples or using the same criteria for each product then it starts to look more subjective than fact.
The team member took several measurements which they claimed were needed for their full customization product. Even that term full customization is more marketing than truth. There is a lot of stuff that is added that you can’t opt-out of. Even though I knew mostly what I wanted the process took awhile (white with white with clean and traditional).
All I wanted was a price and they could not even give that to me timely. It has to be like buying a car. What do you want your payments to be? I’m not looking to finance so the price then is $22000.00!!!! It doesn’t take much to be reminded that product they are selling is the loan not the quality product. 22000 would make a half bathroom renovation cost more than my total kitchen remodel. I eventually got them to some number around 150 a month but not for 1 year and not for 5 years either. It was close to 12,500.00 total after a call to the manager.
Easily over 90 minutes closer to 2 hours and even 3!
It could be a premium product but that does not mean it is entitled to that much of my time and definitely not worth the 10 years of financing for something you might use less than an hour a day.
