How It All Started
Buying a house can be exciting, but also kind of scary. Back in 1971, we decided to make that process a little less scary by founding the home warranty industry. Before American Home Shield, there was nothing to protect homeowners from the expensive and unexpected repair and replacement costs that are inevitable with home ownership. Things like having the stove or washer stop working at the worst possible time or having the A/C quit in the heat of summer. We decided to change all of that and founded the home warranty industry. Our Commitment Continues Today we're the undisputed leader in home warranties, helping to provide peace of mind to millions of homeowners, regardless of the age or condition of their home. We also provide the convenience of having a single number to call when something goes wrong. Whether you are in the middle of purchasing a home or if you've lived in your current home for years now, we've created a home warranty plan designed to put the control of responsible homeownership back in your hands. With over 16,000 contractors across the nation and the most comprehensive coverage on the market, we've got you covered.

I’ve lost hundreds of dollars in spoiled food, have been living out of a cooler, and my health and mental wellbeing have been affected by the ongoing stress. Their customer service representatives offer apologies but no action, and their contractors are inconsistent in communication and professionalism.
While I appreciate that my $100 service fee was eventually refunded, this experience has shown that American Home Shield does not prioritize customer care or timely resolution. After this ordeal, I cannot recommend their services to anyone seeking dependable home warranty coverage.
As requested by AHS reply I have sent them an email to the only address I have for them. You notice when you read the reply from them they don’t give a way for me to DM them. Perhaps it looks better for them on this negative review that they replied
I discovered our flooded basement on 22 October. At 1658 hrs I made my initial dispatch request with American Home Shield (AHS).
On 23 October at 1128 I made contact with AHS chat and requested they expedite the dispatch because the “water” in the basement was sewage based. In addition, we could not use our toilets or run any water down the drains/
After several more attempts with the “chat”, I made a phone call to customer support at about 1400 hrs. The heavily accented male explained that AHS was still waiting for one of two plumbers to respond to them and further advised that if no technician was located by the 24-hour mark, AHS would email me an authorization to seek my own plumber.
At 1100 hrs on 24 October, 41 hours after my initial request, I spoke to still another heavily accented individual who was supposed to be a supervisor. Although difficult to understand her English, I was able to understand that if they couldn’t arrange a service call in another 2-4 hours, I would receive a return call and might receive permission to call a local plumber as long as it met with their specific policy criteria.
It is now 1400 hrs. (45 hours after request) and I have had no further contact with AHS and am forced to start looking for a local plumber. All this on a Friday afternoon while we deal with a contaminated basement and on ability to run water or use the toilets.
