I recently had a technician from ARS Air Conditioning Services come to diagnose my system, and unfortunately, my experience was far from satisfactory. Initially, the technician identified a wiring connector that was not properly connected, which had caused a blown fuse. Instead of simply fixing the connection, he insisted that I needed to replace the entire wiring system from inside to outside, which seemed excessive for what was a minor issue.
Moreover, the technician claimed that the defrost board inside the heat pump needed replacement, stating that they had bypassed the circuit and that it was only running inside, not outside. This explanation raised several red flags for me, as I understand that a heat pump operates in conjunction with both the inside and outside units. If one is malfunctioning, it typically impacts the other, so his reasoning felt inconsistent.
When I requested a diagnostic report or any documentation of the findings, the technician was unwilling to provide any images or details. It felt like he was more focused on upselling unnecessary repairs rather than addressing the actual problem. The lack of transparency and documentation left me feeling uneasy about the whole situation.
In conclusion, my experience with Higher Air Conditioning Services was disappointing. I would recommend seeking a company that values clear communication, transparency, and honesty in their diagnostics and repairs. I hope my review helps others make a more informed decision.
Day 1
We woke up to notifications about an error code from our thermostat. We called ARS because we knew they installed the unit and maintained it for the previous owners. They immediately scheduled us an appointment and tech 1 was at our house within a couple hours. Tech 1 said he fixed the issue. We paid and he left. He was not even gone for 10 minutes before the error codes were back. We immediately called ARS back to explain the situation. They scheduled another appointment for later that day. Tech 2 showed up and stayed for about 2 hours. He was not able to resolve the issue and said that we were on the schedule for the next day. While here, tech 2 tells us he is annoyed that he is having to fix tech 1’s screw up. He told us that tech 1 incorrectly wired the part he installed and that this is becoming a common problem for him. Tech 2 has been told to start documenting every time it happens.
Day 2
We never received a text or email about the appointment so we called ARS to verify that we were on the schedule. We were surprised to find out that we were not so once again we made another appointment. Tech 3 shows up later in the afternoon. He determines that our compressor is bad. It will cost $5000 to fix and take 2 weeks to get the part. He is also not able to verify that is the issue causing the error codes so basically we could spend the $5000 and still not fix the problem. He recommends replacing our 6 year old unit. We agreed to speak with the sales team.
Day 3
We thankfully made the decision to get a second opinion. A second company came out first thing in the morning. They had our system up and running in 1 1/2hrs and only cost about $700 to fix. We didn’t need a new system and there was nothing wrong with the compressor
