Homeowner Reviews
When the crew arrived in December, they were unable to fit, so the job could not proceed. Alternative options were mentioned, but DBS does not manage or coordinate that work, leaving me to handle next steps myself.
The biggest issue is timing — this all surfaced in December, resulting in a winter delay that likely could have been avoided with a more realistic initial assessment. I would have preferred a clearer plan or a start-to-finish solution.
Edit: After reviewing the work in person they sent another crew to correct the cast steps and subcontracted the landing, so I have updated their score. I personally won't be utilizing their services in the future, your mileage may vary.
The completed project exceeded my expectations.
We entered into a contract for a foundation repair with DBS and a week later our situation changed substantially due to some unforeseen family events, but DBS is unwilling to work with us and grant a full refund. We were aware of the 3-day cancellation policy dictated by the state, but I failed to read about the 10% (about $3000) cancellation fee after the 3-day period in the contract and that wasn’t mentioned during the quote.
With us being 40 days before breaking ground and about a week after the contract signing, I asked James to see if we could get a full refund and he said he would ask his boss for such an exception. James told me the answer from the powers at be was a no, and they would be keeping the 10%. From there I asked to speak with the person who makes the decisions and was told that it was Jack. After speaking with Jack, I found out James had never bothered to ask about a full refund at all and that it was his first time hearing about it.
I thought it might be reasonable to ask for a full refund given the timing but was told by Jack that that was company policy to keep the 10% citing overhead and administrative costs. I was also told I would be wasting my time asking for someone to grant an exception due to company policy. While I agree DBS needs to be paid for their work, I don’t believe $3000 is reflective of the work done up to this point having no ground being broken. But I didn’t read the fine print, I signed the contract, that’s on me and I take responsibility for that. They did give me the consolation of using those funds in the future towards a project, but this interaction leads me to not have the confidence to work with them at all.
Contract or not I don’t think it demonstrates integrity to charge $3000 in this situation or be dishonest with customers who are asking for help even if it’s minor.
Beyond that DBS was a good experience, The visit with James went well, He explained things clearly, Put clear effort into his proposal and we signed on, trusting them with our home and our funds.
My advice to anyone considering working with them is to make sure you read the fine print and understand what their asking.
Update: DBS response takes no action to rectify the situation despite acknowledging the issues at hand.
