Homeowner Reviews
I noticed cracks in the sheetrock and outside mortar in approximately 8 ft of wall at rt back corner of our house. I contacted GL Hunt. Per production manager's recommendation, 4 piers were installed in that area.
Since that time, there has been no improvement. I got tired of repairing the wall and the cracks were increasing, so I contacted GL Hunt. Note: the cracks were always limited to this area and never spread to other areas.
Rep (sales) did evaluation and stated that foundation levels had dropped and piers needed to be raised/adjusted. Work crew came but NOTHING was done as the foreman stated the foundation levels were within acceptable limits. No follow up was done by GL Hunt.
I called in August as cracks became holes and mortar was crumbling. Rep returned. He stated that NO adjustments will be done. Instead, 24 additional piers had to be installed in that entire area plus under the floor as elevations levels had dropped. ??? What.
I contacted GL Hunt again and supervisor did follow up evaluation. He stated that 9 additional piers should be installed (include old piers in place)
9 vs 24 !!!!!!
Foreman of installation crew said that they installed 8 as that was adequate and old piers were no good. I asked if he raised the foundation to acceptable level. He said that he did NOT raise it as pre elevation levels were in acceptable range.
As part of contract, foundation engineer did post installation evaluation. He also stated that the pre and post install elevations were essentially the same and NO raising of the foundation was done/needed.
Contacted GL asking why above work was done.
There were many emails. Then, I was referred to the very unprofessional SALES manager- ? located in Washington, DC.
He was extremely unprofessional with many insults. Some of his responses:
1. Stated that I should know better than to believe 4 piers would
solve the problem. In other words, don't believe the rep - I
should be the expert.
2. The additional piers were installed to stabilize the foundation,
not raise it. Said I was lying by stating that I was told that the
piers were for raising it.
3. Said I followed the wrong recommendation - the one given by
the supervisor - I should have followed the 24 install
recommendation.
Said another engineer could do another evaluation -we already had one do eval.
?? If you have had piers installed, was the problem resolved or were additional adjustments needed. Did the foundation company resolve the problem without several additional piers and costs added.
The crew that came out were all very hard working and respectful of our yard and home. I would highly recommend to request Eduardo’s crew to do your work. They even put back plants and flower pots I had moved before they got there.
The Lead Superintendent, Susanda even made it a point to spend time visiting with us and answering our questions when she came out to evaluate the progress on the job. She was so very personable and knowledgeable. She took her time to show us the plan map and share what she was there to check on.
I highly recommend the G.L. Hunt company and specifically request, Jerod, Susanda, and Eduardo’s crew.
We hired GL Hunt Foundation Repair to fix significant foundation issues in our home. We spent close to $20,000 on what was promised to be a comprehensive and permanent solution. We figured with how serious a foundation fix is for a home we would justify the expensive price and hopefully get what we paid for.
After the first repair, things seemed stable. The floors were level, and there were no obvious signs of ongoing movement.
However, within six months, the problems returned—tiles began lifting, cracking, and separating. GL Hunt eventually identified that the kitchen and dining area sit on two separate slabs. Critically, only one slab had been stabilized during the initial repair leaving one half of the floor unsupported. (This is clearly something a professional foundation repair company should be able to diagnose and plan for prior to doing any work, let alone after they drilled and dug through our floors in multiple areas during the original fix.)
To fix this, GL Hunt recommended high-pressure foam injection to lift the unaddressed slab and level the floors. (Somehow this was not an option 6 months prior) But the expected lift never occurred. The elevation difference remained, and they told us the best outcome was that the foam would at least fill any gaps and “stabilize” the area. That didn’t happen either.
During a recent effort to replace the damaged tile, our contractor uncovered deeper structural concerns:
• Large, unfilled voids beneath the slab, leaving parts of the floor with little to no contact with anything underneath.
• Foam separated the concrete slab from the base layer beneath it, creating what may now be a floating section of floor
• While the crumbling concrete discovered may stem from the original slab pour (not GL Hunt’s work), it highlights the need for a thorough structural assessment that never happened
GL Hunt has made two attempts to fix the problem. Both have failed. We’ve received no clear long-term solution, and we’re now paying additional contractors to re-assess the structure and install proper repairs.
What We’re Left With:
• A visibly unlevel, shifting floor
• Extensive cosmetic and structural damage
• Gaps beneath our slab that create safety and stability concerns
• No recourse, no refund, and no lasting solution
We trusted GL Hunt to handle this job properly—and we gave them a second chance to get it right. They didn’t.
