Our impression of the company was elevated after our experience with Paul.
Company- Leaf home water solutions- Operating out of United sates but servicing Canada remotely with local teams
I am writing to file a serious complaint against Leaf Home Water Solutions, LLC regarding unethical sales practices, misrepresentation, and an attempted exploitation of my consumer rights.
Approximately one week ago, I had a water filtration and softener system installed by Leaf Home Water Solutions. I am still within the statutory cooling-off period, during which consumers are legally entitled to reconsider and cancel their purchase.
Sales Tactics and Misrepresentation
Initially, the company representatives refused to provide pricing information over the phone and insisted on a home visit. During the visit, they conducted a basic water test and confirmed that the water quality in my home was not problematic. Despite this, they aggressively pushed their product using high-pressure sales tactics.
The original quote given was over $10,000, which I immediately declined. They continued their persuasion until they offered a “special deal” at $5,260 + HST. I was told this discounted rate was only available if I agreed to have the system installed that same day, which I now realize was a manipulative tactic to rush my decision.
Lack of Transparency and Consent
I made it clear that I did not want the water to taste heavily of charcoal, nor did I want a significant increase in pH levels. I was assured by the area manager, Steve, that the system had customizable settings and that any adjustments could be easily made. He also verbally committed that, should I choose to cancel, the removal fee would be no more than $300–$400 CAD for plumbing charges.
What followed was extremely concerning. Within two hours, six different workers arrived at my home unannounced to install the system. No documentation, contract, or explanation of the financing procedure was provided beforehand. My driver’s license details were taken under the guise of a credit check, and I was set up for third-party financing without full disclosure or consent.
Post-Installation Issues
I was told the system would take 48 hours to start functioning properly. Once active, the water immediately developed an unpleasant taste. I requested a follow-up test, which showed the water pH had drastically increased from 7.5 to 9.5—a clear violation of the terms we discussed.
Attempts to contact the area manager, Steve, were ignored. After calling customer service 5 times over 4 days, I finally heard back from a local representative who now stated that removal of the system would cost $1,800 + tax, a drastic and unexplained increase from the original verbal agreement.
When I pushed back, citing the verbal promise of $300–$400 and that I was within my cooling-off period, they claimed the $1,800 was for labor, and that they would only cancel my financing after deducting this amount—again, without any written breakdown or justification.
Market Comparison and Conclusion
For reference, similar systems are available in the market for $2,500–$3,000 CAD with 10-year warranties. I feel deliberately misled and pressured into a transaction that was neither transparent nor fairly executed. This conduct constitutes consumer fraud, deceptive sales practices, and unethical business behavior.
I have documented all communications, including text messages, call logs, and voice recordings, and am prepared to escalate this matter to Consumer Protection Ontario, the Better Business Bureau, and if necessary, legal counsel.
I urge others not to trust this company. Their sales practices are deceptive, their customer service unresponsive, and their business model appears designed to trap consumers into overpriced contracts with hidden penalties.
