Modernize Homeowner Insights 2025: Project Planning Preferences

The 2025 Modernize Homeowner Insights Report surveyed more than 150,000 homeowners across trades to understand how they approach project planning, from scheduling and timelines to expectations before the first appointment. The results reveal that clarity, convenience, and control are top priorities.

Homeowners Want Quick and Simple Scheduling

When asked how they prefer to schedule their initial appointment, 43.88% of homeowners chose text messaging, followed by 22.8% via email form. This reinforces that mobile-first scheduling is no longer optional, it’s expected.

Preparation and Transparency Are Key

Before meeting a contractor, 69.55% of homeowners want to know the specific duration of the appointment. This signals the need for contractors to clearly communicate timeframes, deliverables, and next steps to help homeowners feel confident and prepared.

In-Person Still Wins, For Now

Despite digital convenience, 50.87% still prefer to meet contractors in person at their home for the initial discussion, showing that while digital tools aid efficiency, face-to-face connection remains critical to trust and conversion.

Year-over-Year Insight: 2024 vs. 2025

Homeowners’ approach to project planning has become more deliberate over the past year. In 2024, over 60% expected first appointments to last 30 minutes or less, and 69% wanted to know the exact meeting duration in advance. Those trends held in 2025, but with a subtle shift, homeowners are spending more time upfront on research and scheduling to ensure they’re meeting with the right professional from the start. This reflects growing homeowner confidence and planning discipline, likely influenced by digital tools that make vetting and scheduling contractors easier than ever.

What These Homeowner Industry Trends Mean for Home Services Professionals

Homeowners want a clear, streamlined process from start to finish. Contractors who use online booking tools, text confirmations, and structured appointment planning will stand out. Transparency and communication before the first visit can significantly improve close rates and trust.
