What Is Floor & Decor?
Floor & Decor is a warehouse-style hard surface flooring retailer, founded in 2000, with over 260 locations in 38 states. It sells only tile, natural stone, hardwood, laminate, and vinyl flooring. You won’t find carpet, whole-home remodeling, or design-build services here. The company focuses on keeping a large in-stock inventory, clear pricing, and serving both homeowners and contractors in the same store.
In practice, you can walk in, choose from a wide selection of in-stock tile or LVP, buy your installation materials, and take everything home the same day. This is a real advantage over big-box stores, which have less variety, and specialty showrooms, which often require you to place an order.
What Floor & Decor Doesn’t Do
However, Floor & Decor is not a full-service flooring company. If you want help with material selection, installation scheduling, and full project management, you’ll be better off with a company like Floor Coverings International or a local flooring contractor. Floor & Decor does offer installation, but it’s not consistent. Availability depends on the location, and the company does not have its own installers.

Floor & Decor sells five types of hard surface flooring. Here’s a look at what it does well and where it falls short:
Tile: Strongest Category
Tile is where Floor & Decor stands out most. They keep a deep stock of ceramic, porcelain, natural stone, mosaic, and large-format tiles, with more mid-range porcelain and stone options than most big-box stores. Many experienced remodelers choose Floor & Decor for tile over other stores.
Luxury Vinyl Plank (LVP): Strong, With One Caveat
Floor & Decor sells its own NuCore brand and other LVP options. NuCore’s 22 mil wear layer is good for the price, but as we mention on our Best Vinyl Plank Flooring Brands page, some experienced installers say the drop-and-lock system can be fragile during installation. This is less of a problem if you hire a pro, but DIYers should be aware.
Hardwood and Engineered Hardwood: Adequate, Not Exceptional
The selection is decent for mid-range solid and engineered hardwood. However, if you want premium types, wide-plank specialty lines, or artisan-grade products, you’ll find fewer choices here than at specialty hardwood stores.
Laminate: Value-Focused
There’s a good selection of entry-level and mid-range laminate, but this isn’t the place for high-end laminate.
Natural Stone: Above Average
Floor & Decor has one of the better selections of natural stone, except for specialty stone suppliers.

Floor & Decor vs. Lumber Liquidators
It’s important to note that LL Flooring (formerly Lumber Liquidators) filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in August 2024 and has returned to its original Lumber Liquidators name, but there are still big questions about its warranties and product quality.
