Unfortunately, there are some drawbacks to consider. The reverse-curve design doesn’t filter out fine particles as well as LeafFilter’s micro-mesh. The warranty doesn’t cover ice dams, so if you get one in a cold climate, you’re on your own. Helmet Heat helps, but it costs extra. Also, the in-home consultation is a sales pitch, so bring a competing quote.
Gutter Helmet offers one main system with two key add-ons. Every installation is custom-fit to your existing gutters, so you don’t need to replace them.
Every Gutter Helmet system uses an aluminum reverse-curve with a ribbed surface. Rainwater follows the curve and flows into your gutter, while leaves and debris slide right off. Heavy-duty brackets keep it secure, and the low-profile design means you won’t notice it from the ground.
The PermaLife finish uses five layers to protect the aluminum: base metal, anti-corrosion treatment, primer, color, and a clear coat. This helps prevent chipping, cracking, and fading over time. You can pick from several colors to match your trim.
Helmet Heat is an optional add-on with a self-regulating heating cable that helps stop ice and snow from building up at the roof edge and in your gutters. It works with new or existing Gutter Helmet guards and is especially useful if you live where freeze-thaw cycles are common. It does add to the total cost, so ask your installer for a separate price so you can decide if it’s worth it.
Gutter Helmet calls its coverage a Triple Lifetime Warranty. What really matters is what each part covers, and who actually stands behind it.
Southeastern Metals, the parent manufacturer, backs this part of the warranty. It covers your Gutter Helmet against defects in materials or workmanship for as long as you own your home. The PermaLife finish is also covered if it cracks, chips, peels, fades, or chalks. If you need to make a claim, you’ll have to send it in writing by registered mail to Southeastern Metals at their Jacksonville, FL address. Even if your dealer goes out of business, you can still go straight to the manufacturer for material issues.
Your installing dealer backs this part. It covers cleaning, adjusting, and repairing your gutters and downspouts during installation and service calls. But this coverage only lasts as long as your dealer is in business. If they close or stop responding, Southeastern Metals won’t step in.
This is backed by the installing dealer. It warrants that Gutter Helmet products will keep gutters clog-free. The warranty document states directly: “ALL claims under this Warranty for performance failure or defect are the sole responsibility of the installing dealer and must be submitted to the installing dealer for resolution.” This component also has no manufacturer backstop.
Here’s what that means for you: only the material warranty is backed by the manufacturer. The other two (performance and service) depend on your dealer. If you have a material problem, you can always go to Southeastern Metals. For performance or service issues, you’re relying on your dealer staying in business and picking up the phone. Before you sign, ask your dealer what happens to those warranties if they close up shop.
You’ll need to register your warranty at gutterhelmet.com/warranty.cfm within 45 days after installation, or it won’t count. If you sell your home, transferring the warranty costs $150, and you have to send in a transfer card within 45 days of the sale.
